Pillar 1: Developing a Deep Personal Peace
These sessions will be geared on assisting you in cultivating the psychological, emotional, and spiritual elements of peace as a great basis for genuine engagement in the world.

Session 1: Peace and Freedom from Within (November 6)
James O’Dea, Professor (full bio)

James will kick off the program with a motivational talk about what it means to be a Peace Ambassador in today’s society. He challenges us to take responsibility for building inner serenity while acting in the world with genuine integrity. “The peacebuilder must develop an astounding skillfulness in proposing answers, avoiding the blame game, and mediating between viewpoints that are imprisoned inside self-limiting categories,” James writes.

Simultaneously, the Peace Ambassador does not take himself/herself too seriously. “A world without laughter is neither secure nor serene,” James adds. For example, “the fundamentalists are not having a good time!”

You will learn the following throughout this session:

Examine how your inner moral maps, belief systems, and psychological views shape your interaction with the outside and vice versa.
Identify the impediments to unleashing your own inherent characteristics, abilities, and capacities.
Learn personal peace techniques that can help you delve into your innermost nature and provide the groundwork for genuine inner serenity.

Session 2: Coming to Terms with Oneself (November 13)
Aqeela Sherrills, a famed peacemaker who struck a ceasefire between the Crips and the Bloods in Los Angeles, is now the Executive Director of YES! and a peacebuilding consultant across the world. (complete bio)

Aqeela will offer a dramatic and candid peek into his own personal change, which necessitated accepting responsibility for underlying anxieties and shames that were driving his conduct. He will next describe how his own personal development enabled him to address the sources of violence that stole his son’s life. Aqeela helped create peace amongst warring gangs by delving deeper into his inner peace practice.

You will learn the following throughout this session:

Learn how to turn within for inspiration and real tools for addressing your own shadows and developing a daily personal peace practice.

Session 4: Stopping Wound Transmission (December 4)
James O’Dea, Professor (full bio)

Examine how your unconscious behaviors contribute to broader societal trauma.
Examine what is preventing you from living your finest thoughts and ambitions.

You will learn the following throughout this session:

Be encouraged to increase your inner peace practice and reach new heights of integrity and power.
