Ceremonies of the Shaman
Visiting Santa Rosita with Ani Sheati in 2001
D’Autres Mondes (Other Worlds) is a fascinating and beautifully shot first-person account of the alternative reality held by some indigenous peoples of the Amazon. Over the course of four years, Jan Kounen (Blueberry) and his shaman went through more than a hundred sessions using an elixir made from sacred plants. The video does a great job of arguing for the convergence of modern science and ancient wisdom, using a mix of talking-head interviews and striking visuals. – Richness in Choices
Dobermann gave me a platform to voice my anti-establishment sentiments with the kind of glee often reserved for mischievous toddlers. As a result, I began to feel like it was time to take stock of my chaotically happy life and consider my role in the cosmos.
I encountered Questembetsa, the Master Shaman of the 45,000 indigenous Shipibo Conibo people of Peru, while conducting research on blueberries in the Amazon. While under his watchful eye, I took part in rituals that culminated in a near-death experience. After the beginning of my introduction, it would last for well over a year. The healing abilities of Shamans and their plants are demonstrated in Other Worlds. This ability might be thought of as a form of human psychotherapy or ancestral psychoanalysis that has been refined through millennia. It exemplifies how their understanding of the Invisible becomes the pinnacle of their societies and their beliefs. The reoccurring visions induced by the sacred plants are recreated in computer-generated imagery.
In conclusion, I personally guarantee this film will not turn out to be a new age Sermon on these natives and their culture. – Jan Kounen
