Of course, as a BJJ practitioner, you are aware that we grapplers approach the combat game differently than other martial artists.
We’re always seeking for new methods to improve our abilities and tips and strategies to help us get an advantage on the mat and grow our game.
Wrestling is the only other fighting system that offers a similar strategy to pushing abilities to a whole new level via devotion and continual training.
Some believe that wrestling is the world’s oldest martial art, and we’d be hard pressed to disagree.
And it turns out that we BJJ trainees can profit from what the top wrestlers have learnt about the grappling game through the years.
Many high level practitioners have always cross-trained in wrestling, which offers them a significant advantage.
For example, if you can wrestle and incorporate certain wrestling techniques into your BJJ game, you may direct the course of the match.
So, if you have a strong top game, you may defeat your opponent and improve on your top game.
You may even utilize “reverse” wrestling to keep oneself from being brought down.
This is especially important if you compete because we all know that points may be difficult to come by at times, so you don’t want to give up too many during a match.
