Dr. Betlinski presented his findings at the OPSO Annual Conference on September 27, 2019, linking pain, trauma, and substance misuse and reviewing their impacts on brain development.
Objectives:
– Recognize three examples of the relationship between trauma, pain, and substance use.
– Understand the three consequences of trauma on brain development.
– Recognize three ways that substance use aids in coping with the impacts of trauma.
– Understand three methods for assisting persons who have experienced trauma.

Jonathan Betlinski, M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Public Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University’s Department of Psychiatry. He is the Medical Director for the Oregon Psychiatric Access Line for Adults, a Lead Faculty for the Oregon ECHO Network, the Program Committee Chair for the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association, and a certified trainer for adult and adolescent Mental Health First Aid, among other things.
