Joni Gilbertson, MA, NCC, LCPC, LMHC, BC-TMH, CTMH, is a certified distance counselor, licensed clinical professional counselor, and court program specialist. She holds an Illinois license and currently resides in Florida. Joni also works as a college instructor in the Sociology Department, where she teaches legal issues as well as a variety of other mental health and criminal justice courses. She was recently nominated and awarded the “Teachers Who Make a Difference” award for her engaging teaching style.
COPE Counseling Services, LLC is owned and operated by Joni. These facilities specialize in family treatment for both adults and children, as well as court-ordered programming for people involved in the legal system. Joni is also trained in the facilitation of domestic violence, sex offender training, distance counseling, and selective creative therapies that increase client awareness.
Joni has many years of law enforcement experience as a probation officer and chief of probation, where she was directly responsible for training the staff on ethics and legal issues, suicide awareness, and other work-related topics. She has prior experience supervising a mental health staff as well as working as a prison therapist, where she trained officers and mental health staff on legal issues, ethics, and other related topics. She has given numerous trainings and lectures on ethics, legal issues, mental health, and suicide prevention for agencies, hospitals, and universities.
