Shinkarate was created by Kamimura Eiichi -oldschool kyokushin karate fighter in the 60ies who later turned to kickboxing in the 70ies. It uses the Glove karate rules, which is basically kyokushin karate “knockdown” rules, but with boxing gloves and punches to the head allowed. Scoring is different from regular kickboxing, though. Shinkarate is both a formal karate style and a sport federation for any dojo/gym just wishing to fight in shinkarate tournaments even if they are not training karate, just kick or thai boxing (non-karate fighters are easily recognized in tournament as they wear a white belt to their karate Gi)

Shinkarate is one of the most popular and rapidly growing amateur kickboxing venues in Japan. Shinkarate tournaments are exclusively amateur. Fighters wishing to go pro enter pro kickboxing events.
For a while almost every Japanese fighter in k-1 had a shinkarate background.
the currently most well known kickboxers with a shinkarate background are Yuya Yamamoto currently fighting in KRUSH.

shinkarate tournaments are called G-2,G-3 and G-4 (previously called K-2, K-3 and K-4) depending on if you are adult, beginner or junior. The difference is how much protective padding you wear.
