“Me…” is Kazushi Sakuraba’s autobiography. “Injury” is the first chapter. Suddenly, the entire world went dark. My clash versus Crocop at Tokyo National Stadium It is now August 28, 2002.
The location is Tokyo National Stadium in Yoyogi.
K-1 and PRIDE combined their forces to stage the inaugural “Dynamite!” The facility could hold around 100,000 people.
Definitely a world-class combat event.
Mirko Crocop, who is still unbeaten in MMA, will be my opponent.
And, of course, the match comes last as the big event.
Last year, on November 3, 2001, I shattered a bone in my left shoulder during a battle against Wanderlei Silva, affectionately known as “PRIDE Gorillaman.”
Though I wasn’t aware of it at the time, the fight against Mirko was my first return bout after a 10-month break following the Silva battle.
Mirko is a heavyweight fighter, whether you look at it objectively or not.
More than that, he is a heavyweight with developed talents, not just a gigantic man.
We are a few of kg apart in weight.
I have no idea why this card was put together.
To name one example, in my column that ran in a professional wrestling magazine, I wrote one statement almost without thinking about it: “Perhaps I’ll go fishing to catch and eat a magnificent Mirko.” The conflict with Mirko Crocop ended shortly after this piece was published.
I’d written it as a joke, but now we were about to fight.
Huh? Is this what they mean by making amends?* So, if that’s the case, what can I do?
All I have to do now is fight.
It would have been preferable if I hadn’t written so much…
