This 60-minute lecture will provide practitioners with the skills they need to begin mastering the discipline of properly preparing claimants for Social Security Disability Hearings. There will be a discussion about how to educate the client on the key elements of the disability process, such as what “total disability” means in the client’s claim, how to get the client to understand the key medical issues in the case, the significance of the onset date, and how the client’s vocational profile will be used in the decision. The talk will also go over how to effectively prepare your client for the process of testifying at the hearing. Examples of what testimony is required for particular impairments under social security legislation, as well as how to convince a client to concentrate on these areas, will be addressed.
