This lecture by Dr. Kim Brandt will give you the tools to help identify & treat bipolar disorder.

Learning Objectives:

• Discuss the role of the primary care physician in bipolar disorder (BD)
• Be familiar with the criteria for BD
• Understand the difference between the symptoms of BD and other mood and personality disorders
• Review treatment strategies for BD in the primary care setting
• Understand contraindications and monitoring recommendations of common medications used to treat BD

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 0.5 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Brandt is assistant professor of Clinical Psychiatry and the associate residency training director for General Psychiatry at the University of Missouri Department of Psychiatry.  Dr. Brandt is a graduate of ATSU-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She completed her residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri where she was chief resident.  She serves the profession as Chair-Elect of the Women in Medicine and Medical Sciences Annual Conference Program Committee, and as a member of the University of Missouri At-Risk Students Committee, the Psychiatry Residency Training and Curriculum Committees, the Grand Rounds Committee and the Eating Disorder Treatment Team Committee.  Dr. Brandt is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
