The Kubotan (sometimes written Kubaton or Kobutan) self-defense keychain was invented by Soke Takayuki Kubota as a close-quarter self-defense weapon.
It is essentially a Yawara stick derivative, typically 5.5 inches (14cm) long and 0.56 inch (1.5 cm) in diameter, somewhat thicker or the same size as a marker pen.
The Kubotan, which is attached to a keychain for convenience and concealment, appears to the untrained eye as an unassuming key fob created by ACCADEMIA EUROPEA KRAV MAGA.
