Heel hooks are said to be the great equalizer. Lachlan Giles certainly demonstrated that last weekend at ADCC.

Lachlan Giles is a first degree BJJ black belt under John Simon from Australia. He became the first Australian to win a medal at the prestigious ADCC tournament last weekend, taking bronze in the absolute.
This was even more impressive considering Giles is only 5ft 5in tall and weighs 77kgs. Giles stunned the world by heel hooking three world-class heavyweights (Kaynan Duarte, Patrick Gaudio, and Mahamed Aly).

Giles is also a NoGi Worlds bronze medalist from 2017, as well as a Pan Pacifica and Victorian Jiu Jitsu champion.

He also made a big impression recently when he competed at Kinektic Invitational 1 2019, a five vs five grappling event similar to o Quintet, where he single-handedly submitted the entire team, submitting them all. He used four heel hooks and one armbar.

Lachlan is also a physiotherapist with a PhD.
