Luke Dancy is back with a new trick that lets you control or swap a card in the open. When Luke showed us this, we all did a second take since the motion happens right in front of your eyes – yet flies right by unobserved.
The performer casually inserts a single card in his pocket, sight unseen, and asks the audience to name any card. Due to’mis-hearing,’ the wrong card, the ‘pseudo mate,’ is removed and neatly left sticking out of the deck.
The performer is called out on their error, but they continue, pulling the card from their pocket. It’s the card that was just shuffled into the center of the deck. The card that has been in full view, still sticking out of the deck, is revealed, having transformed into the card they named just seconds earlier.
In nine minutes of instruction, Luke explains the two-card transposition, a full discussion of the Under Control utility move, and a bonus routine in which a thought-of card makes an unexpected appearance.
