Introducing the Newest State Opioid Prescribing Guidelines
The Washington State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery adopted new standards for osteopathic doctors and surgeons on November 1, 2018. Dr. Williamson will discuss the recommendations and illustrate how physicians may respond to the public health epidemic of opioid overdose and prescription opioid abuse.
The Opiate Reporting System
Instead of a proposal to require prior authorization for all acute opioid prescriptions, the WSMA and WSHA collaborated with HCA to develop a physician and patient-centered program that includes a jointly endorsed acute prescribing policy, a clinical exemption for when the policy is not appropriate, and the Better Prescribing Better Treatment Program, which uses data from participating systems to significantly improve prescribing. Jeb and Dr. Rue will provide an outline of the past and future plans.
