Mark Perry has an uncommon and distinct viewpoint on wrestling: Coach Perry wrestled in high school at Blair Academy under Jeff Buxton and then acquired the “Iowa method” of the sport from Tom Brands while wrestling in college under his uncle, famed Oklahoma State Coach John Smith. Coach Perry has devised a very effective series of drills from the feet and on the mat, using his expertise and first-hand experience, that can lead anyone to the next level of accomplishment.
Coach Perry’s workouts will aid in the development of fundamental techniques and concepts from all positions. He discusses his drilling philosophy and how to correctly execute each drill to produce the most successful wrestlers. You’ll also hear numerous examples of how his athletes use these workouts on a daily basis to progress at even the top levels.
Drills from the Feet – Coach Perry teaches four drills that assist establish a strong foundation of chain wrestling from the ground up in order to become dominant wrestlers in the neutral position. Drills include the following:
A shot position practice designed to teach wrestlers how to stay in good position in order to finish leg strikes more effectively.
A practice for recovering from a bad position while still completing your shot. All wrestlers end up in a poor situation at some time. The confidence to continue attacking stems in part from the belief that one can recover if their attack is halted.
Drills from the Bottom Position – Coach Perry places his players in realistic scenarios in order to build drills that will assist them efficiently come out of the bottom position. His workouts emphasize the mindset required to get away from any opponent. You’ll practice the foundation and no wrists drills to strengthen the two keys to getting away.
Drills from the Top Position – Coach Perry provides you with the tools you need to build dominant wrestlers from the top position utilizing the most up-to-date technique. In this part, he emphasizes the mentality required to be a dominant top wrestler once more. He shows many workouts for riding and turning your opponent.
Coach Perry gives a blueprint of drills to build effective chain wrestlers who can score from any position, using his wrestlers to show the efficient usage of drills.
