Meghan Schaufele, MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is a Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in treating individuals with swallowing difficulties. Meghan works with a team of therapists to evaluate and treat speech, language, cognition, and dysphagia in patients at a Level One Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. Her job entails doing and interpreting modified barium swallow examinations. Throughout her work, she has designed and implemented innovative therapeutic eating programs, as well as established and implemented an armband system to aid residents and patients in determining diet levels while maintaining their medical privacy.
Meghan finished her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Tennessee, obtaining ASLHA’s Students Pursuing Academic and Research Careers (SPARC) Award. Meghan is in charge of educating and supervising speech pathology Master’s students who are doing an internship at her clinic. She frequently teaches medical students and residents about the field and scope of speech pathology. She also conducts training sessions for nursing personnel on dysphagia and stroke. Meghan now works as a team and committee member at the Southeast Regional Stroke Center, the area’s first and only recognized Comprehensive Stroke Center.
