What are the necessary abilities for a trainer? What are the fundamental abilities that convey knowledge about a skill before training it into behavior? What sets a trainer apart from a public speaker?

We begin with the Platform Skills in the Neuro-Semantic method to training trainers. These skills allow a person to stand in front of a group, establish rapport, gain attention, effectively utilize voice, elicit states, frame, use stories and metaphors, and properly handle semantic space. These Platform Skills are essential for everyone involved in public speaking, but they are insufficient for the individual who wishes to stand up and also get skill competence training.

Training skills extend beyond public speaking and entertainment. They entail rapid learning processes in which people gain new competences to their skill set. The trainer must be skilled in the following areas: design, feedback, installation, demonstrating, answering queries, setting up activities for experiential learning, opening and closing loops, unpacking, relevant difficulties, meta-program detection, troubleshooting, group dynamics, and much more. This is exactly what Module Two of the 2004 Neuro-Semantic Trainers Training DVDs contains.

Because the material is about learning and implementing a skill, training skills separates a trainer from a presenter or keynote speaker. This makes training more about the participant than the speaker. As a result, the trainer must “get the ego out of the way” in order to be successful.
