Mishka Terplan is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist who also practices addiction medicine. He obtained his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco and his Residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Hospital. After residency, he did the TECT (Training in Epidemiology and Clinical Trials) fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he got a Master of Public Health in epidemiology. His major clinical, research, and advocacy interests are in reproductive and mental health. He is the Associate Medical Director of Friends Research Institute and an adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco, where he also works as a Substance Use Warmline clinician for the National Clinician Consultation Center. He is also the Virginia Medicaid Addiction Medicine Specialist and a consultant for the National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare. Dr. Terplan is currently funded by grants and has produced over 100 peer-reviewed publications on health inequalities, stigma, and treatment access. He has lectured at local high schools and before the United States Congress, and he has served on expert committees at the CDC, SAMHSA, ONDCP, OWH, FDA, and NIH, especially on gender and addiction issues.
