Part 1: Aiki Budo. 27 minutes b / w 1935 This exciting tape shows Morihei Ueshiba’s Aikijujutsu technique. The program begins with a description of Ueshiba’s childhood and adolescence, including meeting Sokaku Takeda and Onisaburo Deguchi in the 1930s. The film goes on to show Ueshiba’s amazing technique when he was 51 years old. The film is presented in its original form, without cutouts and filmed in detail the technique of sitting and standing, kata with a sword, technique with a bayonet and defense against multiple attackers.
Part 2: Takemusu Aiki. 28 minutes b / w 1952-1958 The dynamic beauty of the technique of the founder of Aikido permeates the spirit of this cassette, which captures the rarest footage of O-Sensei taken between 1952 and 1958. On the film you will see self-defense without weapons, exercises with a sword in pairs, MISOGI NO KATA, slow motion and much more. The footage is perhaps the only thing that has survived from this period in the life of the Founder.
Part 3: Meeting the Adventure. 27 minutes h \ w. This videotape is the first to present a complete, uncut version of an American Aikido documentary. The skeptical American film crew discovered the hidden great power of Aikido through a few initial training sessions personally conducted by O-Sensei. Of particular value in this film is the unique interview taken with the help of the translator Koichi Tohei-sensei. In addition: important footage showing taijutsu, Aiki Ken and Aiki Jo.
Part 4: The path of harmony. 28 minutes b / w, 1958-1962 The concept of “harmony” as a physical expression in Aikido is emphasized in this unusual series. O-Sensei is magnificent with a new, characteristic of this period in his life, a set of sitting and standing techniques, kokyuu-nage, the art of sword, stick and free throws away. This series also reflects a non-standard approach to Misogi Jo Kata and swordwork.
Part 5: Divine technique. 38 minutes b / w and color, 1962-1962 The embodiment of the Omoto religion in Aikido is fully reflected in this series. Finally, O-Sensei’s art has been revealed to its full spiritual depth. Many Great Masters believe that the Aikido technique depicted in this series is unmatched and even O-Sensei had never demonstrated anything like this before this period in his life. The last part was filmed in color in 1969, three months before the death of the Founder.
Part 6: Founder of Aikido. 27 minutes 1961 year. Complete recording of a documentary filmed by Japanese television in 1961. Ueshiba O-Sensei demonstrates countless taijutsu, Aiki Ken, Jo, as well as the technique of selecting weapons on real swords! The film also stars Kisshomaru Ueshiba and Morihiro Saito. Filming took place at the Iwama Dojo and at the old building of the Aikikai Hombu Dojo.
