Ueshiba’s uchi-deshi was Saito.
In O-absence, Sensei’s Saito Sensei taught at the Iwama dojo on a regular basis.
He was, in fact, the only person permitted to teach Aikido with weapons alongside O-Sensei.
After Morihei died, Ueshiba took over as head of the Ibaraki dojo in Iwama, as well as the protector of the Aiki Shrine (Aikido temple in Iwama).
Morihiro Saito systematized and pedagogically improved Aikido instruction by translating the Founder’s methods into distinct training forms.
For the remainder of his life, he employed these forms to help trainees comprehend the Aikido taught by the Founder.
Morihiro Saito passed away on May 15, 2002.
