Morihiro Saito’s Takemusu Aikido, Volume 1: Background and Fundamentals Morhiro Saito’s new comprehensive series of Aikido technical guides begins with this book.
Saito Sensei, 9th dan and one of Aikido’s foremost specialists, demonstrates over sixty variants of the art’s most fundamental forms, ikkyo, nikyo, sankyo, and yonkyo.
“Background & Basics,” illustrated with over 600 pictures and supplemented with clear and precise step-by-step explanations, is an invaluable resource for both starting and advanced practitioners.
Morihiro Saito wrote the highly regarded technical series “Traditional Aikido,” which was released in the early 1970s.
In 1946, Saito enlisted as a student of Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba.
He was the accepted authority in aikido weapons training and one of the art’s top technicians.
Saito ran Ueshiba’s private dojo in Iwama, Japan, and was the Aiki Shrine’s custodian for almost 30 years.
For three decades, he traveled widely over the world teaching his thorough aikido training techniques.
Stanley A. Pranin is the editor-in-chief of “Aikido Journal” and a 5th degree black belt. Pranin began practicing Aikido in 1962 and began training under Morihiro Saito in Iwama in 1977.
During the 1980s, he was Saito Sensei’s interpreter at a number of overseas seminars.
Pranin is the author of “The Aiki News Encyclopedia of Aikido” and “Aikido Pioneers – Prewar Era,” a collection of interviews with early Aikido disciples.
