A fake time limitation is one of those small things you may do that can have a big influence on your success rate. A false time constraint (or “FTC”) is simply a statement like, “I have to get back to my friends in a minute, but…” delivered at a critical moment.
FTCs function because when you approach or engage with a group, their defenses instinctively rise. They are concerned that you may be boring or disagreeable, and an FTC disarms them. It enables them to unwind since they know you’ll be gone soon, even if they don’t like you.
A FTC must be delivered at two distinct occasions. The first is when you open the door. Instead of simply diving into your introduction, such as “Hey, Give me a female viewpoint on something…” you include an FTC. “Hey. I have to get back to my pals in a minute, but before I do, could you just give me a female perspective on anything…”
Another occasion when you should utilize an FTC is when you are joining the set in such a way that you are intruding their area. For example, suppose you open a set with a person seated at a table. You’re standing as you open the door. They respond, and as you sit down, you administer an FTC before continuing with your opening. By sticking, you are disarming their worry that you would impose yourself on the group in an undesired way.
In most cases, you’ll just deliver one FTC per set. If the set is sitting and you know you’ll want to deliver an FTC as you sit down, root your opening instead. Rooting your opener simply means explaining why you’re opening them. “My friend just told me this strange story,” for example, “let me know what you think…”
Experiment with these concepts if they appear trivial. When PUAs employ these tactics, they often encounter less opposition from their targets and open more frequently. They have a little but significant influence.
Best wishes and happy sarging!
