DescriptionAs a psychodynamic, relationally-oriented psychotherapist with years of experience practicing body-based trauma resolution therapy, I have come to believe that what dwells in the body affects much of what we feel and how we see ourselves and the world. We believe that the body exists in the present, but it really responds most vividly to unmetabolized trauma reactions that are still active in the neurological system.
Somatic Experiencing® techniques enable us to assist clients in transitioning from the disarray of unmetabolized trauma reactions to the organization of a coherent, controlled system. When we enable clients to observe their physiological reactions and assist them learn how to let previous responses that are “stuck” in the body to go through and complete themselves, we are, in a very real way, bringing the body up to date.
Because we all have a blueprint for health at the center of our being, the body’s natural propensity to progress toward health and completeness becomes our continuous companion on this healing journey. We also nurture the benign observer to enable clients in moving through unresolved trauma reactions with awareness and a healthy, integrated brain.
