NISHIO SHOJI (1927 – March 15, 2005)
8th dan of Aikido. Shihan Aikikai.
In 1927 he was born in Aomori prefecture
In 1942 he began to practice Judo
In 1945 he entered the Kodokan
In 1950 he began to practice Karate (Shizen-ryu)
In 1952 he began to practice Aikido
In 1976 he received the 8th dan of Aikido (Aikikai)
Also in Over the years, Nishio Sensei seriously studied iaido and jodo, elements of which he incorporated into his aikido. Based on his experience of studying various schools of Iaido, he created his own style, called Aikido Toho Iai.
In 2002, he retired and transferred the right to spread his style of Aikido abroad to his best students, and he himself continued to regularly conduct seminars in various cities of Japan.
On January 13, 2003, the Nihon Budo Kyogikai (Japan Martial Arts Committee), a member of the Nihon Budokan, awarded him for outstanding achievements in the field of Budo.
Nishio Sensei made a huge contribution to the development of Aikido in countries such as America, Mexico, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and many others. Thanks to the efforts of Nishio Sensei, many people in these countries got the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditions of Japanese martial arts.
