OSHO – What Is Meditation
Meditation is a straightforward procedure.
Of observing your own thinking.
Not battling the mind
I’m not even attempting to control it.
Just standing there, a helpless spectator.
You simply take notice of whatever happens.
With no bias for or against.
You don’t call it anything.
“This should not have occurred to me.”
“This is a horrible notion and
This is a very lovely and noble notion.”
You should not pass judgment.
You should be objective.
Because the instant you pass judgment,
You stop meditating.
You are recognized.
You may either become a friend or an adversary.
You build relationships.
Meditation entails
Continuing to be irrelevant to your cognitive process.
Completely unrelated, nice, and collected.
Whatever is happening is being observed.
Then a miracle occurs:
Slowly, one becomes conscious.
That fewer and fewer thoughts pass.
The more aware you are, the less ideas run through your mind.
The less aware you are, the more thoughts travel through your mind.
It’s as though the flow of traffic is dependent on your alertness.
When you are completely aware
Even if just for a split second
All thought comes to a halt.
Suddenly, there comes a complete halt.
And there is no traffic on the road.
That is a meditation moment.
Slowly, those instances increase in frequency.
Those empty voids reappearances
And stay for a longer period of time.
And you gain the ability to move quickly.
With little effort, into those vacant gaps.
So you can move whenever you want.
With little effort, into those vacant gaps.
They are revitalizing and invigorating.
And they make you conscious of who you are.
You are liberated from the thought.
From all of your notions about yourself.
You may now see who you are.
Without reservation.
And knowing oneself
Is to know everything worth knowing.
And to miss self-awareness is to miss everything.
A guy may know everything there is to know in the world.
But what if he doesn’t know himself?
He is completely clueless.
He’s basically a walking Encyclopedia Britannica.
Without awareness, freedom is but a concept.
It has no content.
One cannot be truly free until they are conscious.
Because your unconscious continues to dominate you
Your unconscious continues to pull your strings.
You may believe that you are liberated.
However, you are not free.
You are only a victim.
Blind forces are natural forces.
There are two kinds of individuals.
The vast majority
Follows tradition, society, and the state.
The orthodox, the conventional, and the conformists
They adhere to the crowd.
They are not liberated.
There are also a few rebellious souls.
Dropouts, hippies, and artists
Artists such as painters, musicians, and poets
They believe they are living in liberty.
But all they do is think.
Simply by breaking with tradition
You do not become liberated.
You are still subject to natural inclinations.
You are consumed by passion, greed, and ambition.
And you are not an expert in these areas.
You are a serf.
As a result, I declare
Awareness is the only way to achieve freedom.
Unless and until one’s subconscious is transformed
There is no freedom in consciousness.
And barely a few people go there.
Have been successful – a Jesus, a Lao Tzu
Zarathustra and Buddha
Only a few people
Who can be numbered on one hand.
They have truly lived in liberty.
Because they lived in denial.
That must be the task of every seeker:
To raise the level of consciousness.
Then freedom appears on its own.
The smell of the blossom of consciousness is freedom.
