Techniques are presented in a logical and sequential order. When necessary, each posture is illustrated numerous times and from several perspectives. Pablo’s explanations are concise, to the point, and simple to grasp. Following the presentation of the basic approach, he goes into detail on what your reaction should be dependent on what your opponent performs. The format is similar to Ryan Hall’s instructionals.
This is difficult for me to measure. For starters, I’m a white belt with less than a year of experience on the mats. The other issue is the variation within each rank. White, blue, purple, brown, and black belts are not all the same. I go to 6 lessons a week (3 gi and 3 nogi), as well as any open mat I can find, and I have a terrific support system with my teacher and colored belts. Having said that, I’ve been able to incorporate some of the principles and features into both my gi and nogi games.
If you’re brand new to BJJ (less than 6 months of regular lessons), this isn’t the set for you, but for everyone else, there’s a lot to learn and the presentation is excellent.
