DescriptionHuman trafficking, sometimes known as modern-day slavery, is becoming more prevalent. And it affects every neighborhood. As nurses, it is our responsibility to be aware about trauma-informed treatment for victims of human trafficking. Discover how to identify risk factors, related healthcare concerns, full examination and documentation, and the laws involved. Actual patient case studies will be addressed in order to demonstrate some of the methods in which nurses might help these victims.

IAFN Director Board of DirectorsPamela Tabor, DNP-Forensics, AFN-BC, has vast expertise in forensic sciences, as seen by her numerous successes and activities.
Pamela now works as a consultant for the Department of Defense, working as an expert in sexual assault prosecutions and giving lectures and seminars in locations ranging from local to international.
She is also a trained law enforcement teacher who teaches multidisciplinary courses on issues such as pediatric mortality, Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Scene Investigation, and sexual assault.
Pamela is dedicated to increasing nurses’ education and engagement in forensics practice, and she has created two well-known programs: the Arkansas Infant and Child Death Review Program and the state’s first hospital-based sexual assault unit. Pamela was designated the initial director of both programs and was recognized by the governor. Pamela has spoken before the legislature multiple times and has been called to advise with the Pentagon. She is now serving her second term as Director at Large for the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), and she was named Distinguished Fellow in 2015. Pamela recently wrote a chapter on death investigation for the Core Curriculum for Forensic Nurses and edited and contributed to two versions of the Healthcare Protocol Manual for Sexual Assault. Pamela also worked on the IAFN’s Intimate Partner Guidelines and is presently a member of the strangulation protocol workgroup. She earned her PhD in forensic nursing practice from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, as well as her MNSc and BSN from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Center. She is also a board-certified Advance Forensic Nurse.
