DescriptionDyslexia is an unseen impairment that affects one in every five people!
It’s not just a matter of working harder or paying more attention.
You’ve heard the stories from your clients: hours of studying only to forget it all on a test the next day, a constant inability to understand what they read, difficulty remembering lists or instructions longer than three, the overwhelming frustration of knowing what they want to say or do but not being able to express it on paper or get the words out, and becoming socially withdrawn in an attempt to hide their struggles.

Visual perception abilities are used to:
Continue to take notes in class.
Remember to follow multi-step instructions.
When spelling a word, keep the letter order in mind.
Remember how to do homework when you’re at home.
Memory abilities/phonological awareness required for:
Remembering more than one or two instructions at a time is difficult.
Words should be interpreted as they were intended: cat verses hat.

Penny Stack, OTD, OTR/L, CLT Seminars and items related to Penny Stack: 4Penny Stack, OTD, OTR/L, CLT, founded Dyslexia Center of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Penny has over 26 years of occupational therapy expertise, including working with children with unique learning difficulties. Penny is also the mother of a dyslexic child who has overcome significant reading issues.
Penny is Handwriting Without Tears certified, has a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, California, and a Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from Loma Linda University. Her study on closed head injuries and cognitive retraining was published in the journal Brain Injury. Penny’s latest project is titled Dyslexia and Its Impact on Occupation: The Lived Experience.
