Review
‘International Political Economy, a seminal work by one of the most important political economists, is a must-read on economic development for academics, students, and policymakers, particularly for its insightful critique of orthodox economic thought on development.’ His comprehensive consideration of numerous views makes the book relevant to both multidisciplinary social scientists and political economists.’ – William H. Newell, Association for Integrative Studies Executive Director and Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, USA
‘Ray Miller meticulously lays forth three contrasting views of world political economy. He treats them with admirable fairness, meticulously detailing their strengths and flaws. Ray Miller’s scholarship is impressive: he certainly understands what he’s talking about. The text is simple and concise. No other literature in the discipline comes close to offering such a thorough and balanced examination of these three views. Students who use this work should be able to pick among different viewpoints based on their merits, and even incorporate components from each to develop a more comprehensive and nuanced knowledge of IPE.’ – Rick Szostak, Economics Professor at the University of Alberta in Canada
‘This is a textbook that both professors and students of international political economy will enjoy. It assists readers in making critical sense of the discipline by methodically “unpacking” the assumptions that underpin main schools of thought in IPE and showing how each school’s assumptions link to their analyses and policy prescriptions. Its comprehensive examination of Keynesian viewpoints, as well as its consideration of crucial global environmental concerns and critical “green IPE” perspectives – which are often overlooked in other works – make it a good choice for undergraduate courses.’ Glenn Fieldman is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at San Francisco State University in the United States.
