Knowing the value of a therapeutic connection with an oppositional adolescent is one thing; knowing how to develop that relationship with someone who doesn’t want anything to do with you is quite another.
This 90-minute presentation combines the art and science of relationship development in a personal and practical way. This enthralling session will profoundly alter your attitude to this difficult (but profitable) group. You will discover:
Essential tactics for fostering trust, mending unavoidable rifts, and de-escalating crises
15 “back door” concepts for dealing with withdrawn and difficult young people
Why behavior charts, worksheets, and natural consequences will not (and have never) result in long-term change
The influence of trauma and neurobiology on meaningful connection
