Parts of new projects are occasionally re-executed or mended due to poor design or implementation. The Islamabad-Rawalpindi BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) consisted of 20 stations over a 23-kilometer corridor linking the two cities. Each station’s roof was made of ACP sheets that were fixed to an aluminum frame with steel supports. Silicon was utilized to fill the seams of ACP sheets, however poor material and craftsmanship produced leaking in the joints. The total length of the joints exceeded 400,000 RFT. Leakage came from practically every direction. So, in order to prevent the time-consuming practice of tracking the leak, all of the joints required treatment in order to develop a permanent solution:
Polyurethane sealant was used to replace the low thickness and poorly adhered silicon.
After filling the joints, they were allowed to cure for 6-7 days before undergoing the water Pounding test.
LAM 6 inches wide was used to cover all of the joints. (Applied Liquid Membrane) UV Resistant Waterproofing System Based on Polyurethane in Four Steps:
Grinding for paint removal; PU Primer; PU Flood Coat with Reinforcement Fabric; Aesthetic top coat.
