I recently returned from my first Traffic and Conversion Summit in San Diego!
I made a small film with some fragments from my trip so you could see what the conference looked like from my viewpoint.
This is something I hope to do more of in the future, so let me know what you think in the comments below and I’ll make sure to shoot more stuff at future events.
Name of the Conference: 2016 Traffic and Conversion Summit
Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California
The dates are February 9, 10, and 11.
Digital Marketer, the host,
3,000-4,000 people attended (estimated)
Price: $497 for Super Earlybird, $697 for Earlybird, $997 for Super Marketer, and $1997 for At The Door (optional $497 VIP Upgrade).
How Is the Traffic And Conversion Summit?
Where do I even begin…
Before I go into the specifics, I paid $697 USD for my ticket (I barely missed the $497 USD superearly bird pricing because I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to attend, which I’ll be sure to take advantage of next year).
I also opted to get the $497 VIP Upgrade, which came with a few other bonuses that I’ll go into later.
Crowds and Networking
Unlike other events I’d attended in the past, when the audience was novice and uninformed of many basic marketing methods and tools, the Traffic and Conversion Summit was spot on. The folks who attend the event are of a far better caliber than those who attend other sorts of gatherings.
Attending the different parties and networking activities that surround the event was crucial. Because this was my first event, I obviously didn’t know many of the hosts of these events, so I made it a point to network with as many marketers as possible before the event.
It turned out to be a terrific technique for not just making acquaintances, but I was also invited to at least 1-2 parties/events following each day of the summit. To be honest, if you’re going to events and conferences like this to network, you HAVE to go to these sorts of events. The audiences are significantly more hand-picked and selected, implying a high quality of people with whom to network.
The event’s audience, on the other hand, did not disappoint.
One of the most important things for me was catching up with a lot of folks I’d worked with or connected with online but never met in person. This began on the first night, when I attended the internet marketing party (a must-attend), and continued throughout the event’s seminars and parties. So, if you reside on the other side of the planet, make the trip (in my case, 25 hours) to T&C and make the effort to cultivate genuine connections with people; the return on investment will be enormous.
Speakers and Topics
This year’s speakers were Digital Marketer and Native Commerce co-founders Ryan Deiss, Perry Belcher, and (not so) wicked genius Roland Fraiser, as well as other members of their team including Molly Pittman and Richard Lindner.
On the first evening, Gary Vaynerchuck (who utterly demolished the stage as always) delivered the major keynote, followed by Verne Harnish on the second day (whowas on a whole different level). Daymond John also made a quick cameo to promote his new book.
Overall, a fantastic lineup with a solid mix of speakers.

I don’t think they could have chosen a better topic combination for their event.
The Planning of the Event
Simply said, 10/10.
Everything was perfect, from registration to cleanliness to being informed where to go.
There were lots of employees strolling around the event to make sure people understood where they were going and to assist them if they required assistance.
The VIP Treatment
As previously stated, I paid an additional $497 USD for the VIP premium to the event.

The VIP Area
This was also a really great addition because you could swing by the lounge if you were thirsty or hungry. I met some excellent folks to chat to and network with while also enjoying the refreshments provided throughout the day.
What Could Be Better Next Year?
To be honest, there isn’t much there.
There were several related themes that clashed on the calendar that I would have like to have more space between.
The event was preceded by a barrage of emails asking if I wanted to “get certified live at the event,” which was a touch bothersome.
Speaking sessions began far too early (8 a.m.). Event organizers must understand that marketers go out and party…a lot. So moving them to 10 a.m. could be a good idea to give folks some time to recuperate from the previous night and begin more awake.
More Q&A would have been fantastic (during and outside ofthe sessions with speakers). It would have been a wonderful touch to ask questions to speakers who had just finished a session the hour before at a certain booth and record it/take photographs with them.
Finally, it was far too brief.
When you’re enjoying yourself, you don’t want it to stop. Having said that, I believe I and a few others were exhausted by the conclusion of it.
Would I Go Again?
Yeah, yes, yes!
This was one of the most fun events of my marketing career because of the individuals I met and the material I consumed.
The flight was a bit of a trek (24 hours door to door), but it was nothing compared to the opportunity cost of missing out on the event.
Here are some images from the event that I shot while traveling and during the event. It features images of myself with friends and other marketers in the business I met at the 2016 Traffic and Conversion Summit.
The only thing I regret is that I did not capture more images and films of the event (a mistake I will not repeat next year).
I definitely suggest Traffic and Conversion Summit and will be there in full force next year.
Flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles International Airport.
Arriving at San Diego International Airport
I picked up my Uber at the airport’s ride-hailing station.

At the event, I recorded a podcast with Caleb at the fantastic BuzzSprout booth that was set up.

The day I arrived, these great gentlemen welcomed me to their Super Bowl party (I didn’t even know them!). Zach P Johnson (left), Ricky Baldasso from Australia (left middle), myself (right middle), and Caleb Hodges (right).
I caught up with Perry Belcher to ask him a few questions and take a picture.
Roland Fraser, another Digital Marketer Partner and thinker, was also interviewed.
Mr. Hustle was a big fan of mine. Mr. Gary Vaynerchuck
Daymond John from Shark Tank was also a fangirl.

I also thought I’d take a photo next to the VIP sign in case folks didn’t realize I was a VIP.
I’m having a good time with my friend and top affiliate Charles Ngo.
