Stefan Molyneux – Putting off Procrastination
I’ve been dabbling in the realm of (psycho)philosophers recently, and my most recent find is, host of Freedomain Radio. For his liberal views, he is both revered and despised. That is why I invited him to speak at the forthcoming conference in Amsterdam in April. A little squabble never killed a party.
Stefan discusses why you procrastinate and how to stop in this video. The more we connect online, it appears, the more productive we become. It has never been simpler to launch new ideas and establish new enterprises, yet our attention span has shrunk to the size of a fly. There is so much going on that merely completing your chores is more difficult than ever.
Everyone should have 30 minutes to listen to a guy tell a fantastic story, but here’s a quick summary (you scratch and win people!):
Warning: This is a spoiler.
Stefan believes that we procrastinate because we are treated like slaves as children. Children are rarely polled for their thoughts or asked for input. Children are instructed what to do at home and at school; this is how parenting works. But here’s the thing: we don’t truly get over this “trauma” as we grow up. Every task nowadays might still feel like an order that we want to reject passively. Procrastination is a scar tissue that is not natural. So, instead of ordering ourselves around, we should really select what we want to accomplish. We need to cease externalizing our musts and instead concentrate on why we ‘desire’ to accomplish the things we ‘need’ to do.
Okay, everyone, get to work! 🙂
