Hapkido Ultimate Self Defense by Steve Sexton I do not practice hapkido.
So, rather than rambling on about how good/bad it is, I’ll simply say that I found it fascinating to watch.
I might as well share it with the rest of you here.
As a former boxer, I was perplexed by two of his defenses against blows.
I know how I move and hit, and his method felt strange.
I’m not saying it’s bad or invalid—again, not my style—but it’s strange to me that he’d display what he did.
His take downs (throws and off of grabs) are as firm as a brick wall, which is undeniably remarkable.
I dug it! To his credit, he also emphasizes that if you’re presented with a knife and can run away, do so! If you don’t have to, don’t confront a weapon.
That is sound advice in a world when so many charlatans want to teach you 44 ‘unstoppable tactics’ to disarm the knife bearer, which will only get you cut up.
He does show weapon defensive skills too BTW.
I’m not sure what to say when he messes them up with a cane.
No crap…
It’s like a Jackie Chan trick, but it’s genuine.
