DescriptionTo find peace, joy, and meaning, a person must accept what has happened in the past and what is happening now, both good and bad, and figure out how to integrate all of this into the fabric of experience and personality. Transcending current changes, as well as unresolved traumas, disappointments, and regrets, is an essential growth process for your older adult clients. As the population ages, these “life stage” issues are becoming more common in counseling settings.
This seminar will teach you how to use your existing skills to teach or reinforce effective ways to cope with the “new normal” to your older clients. It will also teach you how to be a “witness” to the story as well as a “guide” to help the person explore her/his life and experiences. It will present a viable, dynamic process for investigating depression, anxiety, addiction relapse or onset, complex grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder, distorted thinking, and other mental disorders.
The seminar, which combines traditional and alternative therapies, better prepares you to serve older adult clients who are still cognitively able to use therapy, are seeking help for subjective distress, and want to learn how to feel better.
