Part IV of Kendo Principles discusses the major techniques of Kendo with two swords (Nito-Ryu). During a battle, Miyamoto Musashi, the most famous Samurai in Japanese history, devised the Nito-Ryu method. This video shows both proper and wrong motions that are frequent among beginner pupils. It may also be used as a self-training guide for Kenshis who desire to learn Nito-ryu and grasp the higher methods in depth.
Dojo instructors may utilize this movie as supplemental training material for their students as well. This video is entirely narrated in English for ease of comprehension, and the camera is shot from several viewpoints. Many slow motion photos are taken to show excellent and terrible instances from various viewpoints.
Matthew Raymond (Black Belt 5th Dan), one of the world’s most recognized Nito-Ryu Kenshis, explains all methods and motions. During his extensive training in Osaka, Japan, he mastered his Nito-Ryu methods. Matthew has won several major championships and is presently a member of the Canadian national team, having competed in four World Kendo Championships, finishing third in 1994 and 2000.

“I began Kendo in Brazil in 1975 and have visited many different Dojos all around the world since then. I was very lucky to have been trained by a variety of Senseis, all of them were excellent teachers. They not only taught me Kendo techniques, but also the foundations of human character. I’d want to thank all of my Senseis and other Kenshis for their patience in practicing Kendo with me. Many people have asked me whether there is a decent instructional Kendo video in languages other than Japanese, and I have yet to locate one. This is why I decided to create one myself, with the intention of assisting many individuals interested in Kendo outside of Japan. Matthew (Kendo 5th Dan) is a long-time buddy and teammate on the Canadian Kendo National Team. I’m thrilled to have him in this video since I consider his Nito-Ryu methods to be among the greatest in the world. This video would not have been possible without him. I welcome any feedback or recommendations to improve the quality of the future installment of this video series.”
