We will look at how Asperger’s syndrome affects personal EQ competencies like self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-motivation, as well as social EQ competencies like social awareness and social skills. Suggested intervention options will be presented as well. Timothy P. Kowalski, M.A., CCC-SLP, is an internationally recognized authority on Asperger Syndrome and a certified speech-language pathologist specializing in social-pragmatic communication difficulties. His Orlando office has seen clients from Europe, South America, and all throughout the United States. Mr. Kowalski advises with schools on best practices for kids diagnosed or suspected of having Asperger’s syndrome on a regular basis, and he gives schoolwide district inservices.
Mr. Kowalski gives international presentations on a wide range of Asperger’s-related topics, serves as a guest speaker at universities and colleges, and consults on forensic cases involving Asperger’s syndrome. He has worked in psychiatric healthcare delivery systems ranging from in-patient and outpatient psychiatric hospitals to sex offender centers and school-based settings. Mr. Kowalski is the author of six books on Asperger syndrome, including Asperger Syndrome Explained, Social-Pragmatic Success for Asperger Syndrome and Other Related Disorders, Are You In The Zone?, The Source for Asperger’s Syndrome, Me, Myself, and You, Understanding Emotions: A Guide for Adults, and Assessing Social Communication in Asperger Syndrome.
He is the Florida Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s vice president of professional practices in speech-language pathology, and he is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Autism Society of America, the Council for Behavior Disorders, and the Council for Exceptional Children.
Mr. Kowalski received the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists’ “2010 Clinician of the Year Award” and was nominated for the ASHA Louis M. di Carlo Award for Recent Clinical Achievement in 2011. He was named “TEAMS 2000 Speech-Language Pathologist of the Year” for his work with Autism in the four-county greater Orlando, Florida metropolitan region, and he has served on the board of directors for the Autism Society of America’s Greater Orlando Chapter.
