This class will work toward Visvamitrasana, an advanced posture that requires a lot of hip and hamstring opening. We will go over all of the component pieces before trying the entire posture. Whether or whether you truly can get into the full expression of the stance doesn’t matter. An advanced practice is far more about breath and awareness than how lovely the pose ends out. This sequence will test and perhaps perplex you at times, so remember to respect your own approach. You will be successful if you do it consciously.

Ever since I can remember, I have been on the lookout for more, for something bigger. Growing up in Los Angeles, I was never completely comfortable in my own skin. I craved information and progress from views other than myopic Western systems. After reading some Alan Watts and Krishnamurti, my hunger developed and, while I didn’t realize it at the time, I began my quest for yoga. Some of my old friends had discovered yoga and urged me to join them for courses. At first, I dismissed the idea. My preconceived notions about yogis kept me away: there was no way I was going to start eating tofu, opening chakras, and chanting to Gods I didn’t understand. Thanks to my persistent friends, I strolled into a Bryan Kest class in the summer of 2000. His down-to-earth attitude was just what I needed, and I immediately connected with the practice’s physical advantages. My body recovered from the torture of addiction, and my mind became clearer as a result of the practice. The euphoria I had had from heroin had been replaced by tranquility, equilibrium, and equanimity. My practice progressed, and I discovered another amazing instructor who provided me with fresh insights and pearls. Govindas revealed the heart of yoga to me. The term “electronic commerce” refers to the sale of electronic goods. Bryan was conducting teacher training in Mexico after finishing graduate school in mathematics at UCLA. I didn’t want to teach, but I did want to strengthen my practice and travel. The course exposed me to new concepts, two of which I resonated with instantly. Lisa Walford led a three-day Iyengar intensive. The level of alignment education and accuracy she offered piqued my analytical mind. I got sucked in. In addition to hard physical activity every day, we meditated for 45 minutes at the end of the evening. For me, this was the next step. Despite having excellent control over my body, I found I had practically no control over my thinking. Meditation was the most hard element for me in the program, yet at the same time, the most fulfilling. Today I practice asana daily at home and try my best to meditate every day. My teacher, Vinnie Marino, assists me in learning new methods to teach and incorporate yoga into my daily life. He is an excellent mentor and friend. I’ve just climbed a few levels of the ladder and am currently working my way up. Every flaw is a chance for progress and every day is an opportunity for life. I am fortunate to have wonderful friends and family with whom to share my joy. I hope to see you on the road to a happy ending.
