Lisa Ekman is the Director of Government Affairs at NOSSCR. She has over 16 years of experience working to increase economic stability for persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on SSDI and SSI, Medicare and Medicaid, job programs, and long-term services and supports. She began her disability policy career at the Social Security Administration as a Presidential Management Intern, where she worked on the establishment and execution of the Ticket to Work Program. She has served on the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Advisory Panels, as well as as a disability policy advisor to Senators Edward M. Kennedy, Tom Harkin, and James Jeffords of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. She returned to school to acquire her law degree after working as a Senior Policy Analyst in Legislative Affairs for the Association of University Centers on Disabilities. She formerly worked as the Director of Federal Policy for Health & Disability Advocates before joining NOSSCR. She has also advised NOSSCR, the American Association of People with Disabilities, Axiom Resource Management, the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities, and the National Academy of Social Insurance on disability policy. Ekman earned a J.D. with honors from Georgetown University, a Masters in Social Work from the University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Northwestern University.
