“According to Finnish folklore, the first kantele was constructed from fish jaw bones and young maidens’ hair.
The sound of the first kantele was so wonderful that all living creatures began to cry.
Their tears rolled into the water, and as they came into contact with it, they transformed into lovely blue pearls.”
Get inspired by the natural sounds of Finland: XPERIMENTA Kantele is a sampling collection of three lovely Kanteles, including the Concerto Kantele performed by musician and artist Emma Lomy.
XPERIMENTA Kantele was recorded in a 105mq recording studio in the Sibelius Academy Music Technology department, with only top-of-the-line equipment and a lot of enthusiasm.
three distinct instruments
Each instrument has its own spirit.
As a result, we sampled three instruments:
– Kantele Concerto
– Kantele with Round Ends
– Mini Kantele
Inventive Layers
Colorize and personalize your Kantele by using the “Layer” option, which allows you to add three instrument layers to the sound:
3 Microphone Preferences
Don’t be sidetracked by a thousand knobs: the fewer the knobs, the better. Create your own sound by customizing your instrument.
Felt and Harmonics
We captured the Concerto Kantele’s harmonics. It is possible to activate them by turning the modwheel (CC1) to the highest setting.
The kantele is Finland’s national instrument, and it is part of a wide family of string instruments known as “zithers.” Zithers are resonating instruments having a changeable number of strings that may be plucked, strummed, hit, or bowed. The strings of the kantele are plucked or strummed, and the tiniest kanteles may be held in the player’s lap. Kanteles come in a variety of sizes, including 5-string, 10-string, 11-string, and 36-string concert kanteles like the one we recorded.
Emma Lomy portrays
“Emma Lomy is a multidisciplinary artist from Finland who works with music, poetry, essays, theater, dance, photography, and performance art. Lomy’s paintings combine minimalism impressionism with a study of aesthetic appreciation of the beautiful via diverse forms of art.”
Sibelius Academy Studios were used for recording.
The kantele was recorded in Finland’s largest conservatory, Sibelius Academy. The Kantele and other exquisite traditional instruments are still studied at the Folk Department. The session was done in a 105mq recording studio using only top-of-the-line gear, including DPA, Neumann, and Gefell mics, Grace Design preamps, and RME converters.
