Seligman, Ph.D. in Psychology, is the Zellerbach Family Professor of Psychology and Director of the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specializes on positive psychology, learned helplessness, despair, and optimism. He is the best-selling author of various novels, including Flourish. He earned the American Psychological Society’s William James Fellow Award for fundamental science and the Cattell Award for scientific application, as well as two Distinguished Scientific Contribution awards from the American Psychological Association. Seligman was elected President of the American Psychological Association by the biggest margin in contemporary history in 1996. His present objective is to alter social science to focus on the good things in life: strengths, positive emotion, healthy connections, purpose, and human flourishing.
