Milton Erickson’s pioneering psychotherapies emphasized helping patients progressively move from a focus on the unchangeable past to a focus on the positive potentials of the future. Significant evidence has collected in recent years suggesting a focus on the future is significantly more than a philosophical choice. Indeed, a future orientation has been linked to some of the most fundamental components of therapeutic practice, spanning from an individual’s personality features to treatment response. In this speech, we will look at some of the numerous aspects of a future orientation and how Dr. Erickson was foresighted in supporting a future emphasis in psychotherapy.
Objectives of Education:
Identify and describe how Dr. Erickson exposed therapy patients to future possibilities.
