DescriptionThe Neuroscience Behind Doing the Right Thing – Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT – CC19 Keynote 03
Description:
We are now experiencing high levels of emotional tension in relation to issues of fairness, justice, ethics, and morality. As couple therapists, we work with society’s smallest unit, the two-person system that is the main attachment partnership. When directing partner conduct within and outside of treatment, therapists should have a deep awareness of their own moral and ethical compass. Therapists should have a basic understanding of the psycho-neurobiological correlates of not only fairness, justice, and sensitivity, but also the ability to do the right thing for oneself and others. This speech will aim to address a highly deep but critical topic that answers issues like why do we self-harm, do things that make us feel better at the expense of being better, and act first and think afterwards.
Objectives of Education:
List at least two brain regions that are involved in mistake correction.
Describe at least three reasons why people make mistakes.
Use at least two tactics to persuade a couple’s partners to do the right thing.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
