Jay Haley (M.A., Stanford University, 1953) was the Director of the Family Therapy Institute in Washington, D.C. He was a key proponent of the strategic/interpersonal approach to family counseling. Haley worked at the Mental Research Institute as the Director of the Family Experiment Project and the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic as the Director of Family Therapy Research. He has written seven books, co-written two, and edited five. He has also contributed to over 40 professional publications and books. Haley is the former editor of Family Process and the first recipient of The Milton H. Erickson Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
