2 hours and 39 minutes.
Audio-Only Format
Date of the original program: December 12, 2013 DescriptionDescription:
Psychotherapy is the study of how people might develop constructive, therapeutic responses to life difficulties. This session focuses on three key connections that enable clients to do so: (1) positive intention and objectives (“towards a good future”); (2) Somatic Centering (“embodied present”); and (3) Field Resources (“positive connections outside the problem”). We’ll see how, in most cases, all three of these links are missing in a recurrent problem. More significantly, we will examine how clients might be assisted in developing and maintaining good relationships while interacting with unpleasant material, such as a previous trauma, a current challenge, or a future potential. Participants will be shown a variety of approaches and examples, as well as various demonstrations, to demonstrate this positive approach to psychotherapy.
Objectives of Education:
Show three approaches to therapeutic transformation.
Describe three methods for guiding a client to a good, skill-based state of being.
Determine three approaches to convert a bad aim into a good goal.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*

Stephen Gilligan, Ph.D., works as a Psychologist in Encinitas, California. He was one of the first NLP students at UC Santa Cruz, and his mentors were Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson. He became one of the foremost professors and practitioners of Ericksonian hypnosis after getting his doctorate in psychology from Stanford University. This work evolved into his original ideas of Self-Relations and Generative Self, and eventually into Generative Coaching (in partnership with Robert Dilts). These many traditions have all been updated and incorporated into the current Generative Change Work, which includes Generative Coaching, Generative Psychotherapy, Generative Trance, Hero’s Journey, and Systemic Change work.
