Jay Haley (M.A., Stanford University, 1953) was the Director of the Family Therapy Institute in Washington, D.C. He was a key proponent of the strategic/interpersonal approach to family counseling. Haley worked at the Mental Research Institute as the Director of the Family Experiment Project and the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic as the Director of Family Therapy Research. He has written seven books, co-written two, and edited five. He has also contributed to over 40 professional publications and books. Haley is the previous editor of Family Process and the first winner of The Milton H. Erickson Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rollo May got the first Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University in 1949. Union Theological Seminary gave him a Master of Divinity in 1938. He is currently in private practice in Tiburon, California. He is the author or co-author of 14 books and has received several accolades and distinctions for his distinguished accomplishments and humanitarian activities. He is a major proponent of humanistic approaches to psychotherapy and the primary American interpreter of European existential philosophy in psychotherapy.

Professor of Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, Thomas S. Szasz (M.D., University of Cincinnati, 1944). He received various honors, including the American Humanist Association’s Humanist of the Year Award and the American Institute for Public Service’s Distinguished Service Award.
