Language has two functions: it informs and it expresses. The expressive component is responsible for eliciting changes in emotion, sensation, “state,” and physiology. Facial expression; speech modulation; gestures; sound effects; behavioral modeling; social mimicry; hesitations; and closeness will be discussed. Exercises, demonstrations, and lectures

Describe the application and advantages of social mimicry in therapeutic practice.
List five techniques for developing advanced hypnotic inductions.

Jeffrey K. Zeig, PhD, is the founder and director of the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, as well as the president of Zeig, Tucker & Theisen, Inc., a behavioral sciences publisher.
