Chris Manning – 3 Day Master Advanced Trading Seminar
Archive : Chris Manning – 3 Day Master Advanced Trading Seminar
Chris Manning is a world-renowned specialist on the utilization of patterns in the stock market. His presentation was rated the “Number One Trading Seminar in 2000” by Technology Trading Magazine. Chris exhibits information accumulated through years of modeling, testing, and applying various tactics over the course of three days. Many diverse methodologies are addressed, and a multiplicity of sources are merged to provide the participant the information they need in each subject in a compact manner – each page of the manuals supplied is stated to represent the sum of substantial reading and consolidation.
These workshops are not for the faint of heart, as seen by the volume of knowledge offered. It is possible to attend any of the days separately and, if necessary, purchase the manuals for the other days. If you decide that the seminar is not for you before the lunch break, you can get a refund by returning your handbook – although there were relatively few vacant seats during the event. It is also possible to retake a previous day at a reduced fee, which should be of interest to people who follow Chris’ suggestion – pick a method, then test it to ensure your knowledge. Indeed, there were traders there who had ‘paper traded’ for several months and were now returning to consolidate and validate their expertise.
The first day of the course begins with analyzing your financial status, how much you should invest, and in what sorts of plays you should invest. Essential for the novice and a great test for the experienced – do you have adequate security or are you playing it too safe?
The course then moves on to other necessities, such as charting software (and the PC specifications required to run it) and selecting a broker. The benefits and drawbacks of various software are discussed, as well as the services you would want from any prospective broker (and questions you should be asking them). By the conclusion of the first day, you will have a good idea of what to look for in a firm (and screening sites to help you find them), as well as a basic understanding of charting to help you decide when to purchase and sell. There’s surely something here for more experienced traders – undiscovered tidbits of knowledge about sources, program advances, and broker news. It might be a good refresher or introduction to the rest of the course. This is excellent for the novice; but, the absolute newbie may find the abundance of new vocabulary daunting, so some prior knowledge may be useful.
The second and third days build significantly on this introduction, with more indicators added to the equation, more patterns found, and combinations of all of these expertly shown in example charts created using the suggested software. Throughout, the audience is asked to respond to what they see, with opportunities to point out patterns and signs that they have noticed. Questions were accepted throughout the presentation, but were generally kept to a minimum in order to maintain the course’s speed, which had picked up significantly by the second day. Chris also accepted questions at breaks, but these were probably better directed at the course’s two aides, who were more readily accessible.
The session concluded with live demonstrations of the software previously displayed, which were used to perform real-time evaluations of both UK and US stocks chosen by the audience. Chris provided his current ‘watch list,’ which included shares he was tracking at the moment rather than advice. Several success stories’ methodologies were also disclosed.
Overall, the course was quite rewarding. As someone who previously knew the fundamentals but nothing about charting techniques, this should help me take my trading to the next level. Although I consider myself more of an investor than a trader, this course has provided me with skills for dealing with what is a common quandary for anybody dealing with stocks: whether to purchase and when to sell. Even if I do not trade as regularly, I am certain that I will make better selections about when to enter and exit stocks. Indeed, many of the approaches may be applied to a variety of investment vehicles (options are also discussed) and timeframes – the course includes advice for both day traders and long-term investors.
If there is one criticism of this course, it is that it is heavily slanted toward Americans. However, because many of the tools will ultimately find their way to the UK and help to close the various gaps that work against UK businesses, anyone who has taken this course will have a head start. They will already be aware of the services they should expect from their brokers. They will also be aware of the tools and websites available to assess both fundamentals and technicals, as well as what to look for in each. For anyone interested in investing in the United States, this course will be a helpful resource for getting started or improving your present strategies. Share clubs would be wise to send a delegate; the two of us who attended the seminar are eager to educate the rest of our group!
