DescriptionThe majority of persons who are traumatized will develop a chronic form inside their own family. Claudia will provide a portrait of addiction in the family, beginning with a genogram and presenting an overlay of how bad childhood experiences, emotional and physical abandonment are the basis of emotional dysregulation fuelling traumatic responses. She ends her talk with a 7-step healing method.

Claudia Black, MSW, PhD, is an internationally acclaimed addictions and codependency specialist, author, and educator known for her innovative and cutting-edge work with family systems and addictive illnesses. Dr. Black’s research has focused on the effects of addiction on young and adult children since the 1970s. She’s presented intervention and therapy methods for family violence, multiple addictions, relapse, rage, depression, and women’s concerns. Dr. Black creates and delivers training workshops and seminars to professional audiences in the fields of family services, mental health, addiction, and corrections. She works as the Senior Clinical and Family Services Provider for Las Vegas Recovery Center and as the Senior Editorial Advisor for Central Recovery Press. She is a member of the National Association of Children of Alcoholics’ Advisory Board and the Moyer Foundation’s Advisory Council.
Dr. Black has received multiple national honors, including the University of Washington School of Social Work’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004.
Dr. Black has spoken on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada. Her courses have been delivered to a diverse range of groups, including military academies, jail systems, medical schools, and large mental health and addiction programs. Claudia has worked with agencies and audiences in Japan, Brazil, Australia, Scotland, Iceland, Germany, England, and Canada, among other places. Many of her books and movies have been translated and released in other countries.
