Don Meichenbaum, Professor Seminars and goods related to this topic: 2Don Meichenbaum, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, where he retired early 15 years ago to become Research Director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment of Victims of Violence in Miami. (Please check www.melissainstitute.org.com that has received over 2 million hits globally. He was a co-founder of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. He was named “one of the ten most important psychotherapists of the twentieth century” in a poll of clinicians published in the American Psychologist. He recently won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Psychological Association’s clinical division and served as Honorary President of the Canadian Psychological Association.
He has given presentations in all 50 states as well as overseas. He has authored many books, the most recent of which being Roadmap to Resilience: A Guide for Military Trauma Victims and Their Families. Treatment of Individuals with Anger Control Problems and Aggressive Behavior; Stress Inoculation Training; Facilitating Treatment Adherence; and The Unconscious Reconsidered are among his other writings.
He has advised veterans’ hospitals, the National Guard, mental treatment facilities for children, adolescents, and adults, treatment centers for individuals with traumatic brain injuries, torture victims, Native Americans, deaf people, and school boards, among others. Janina Fisher, Ph.D., is a certified clinical psychologist and instructor at Bessel van der Kolk, MD’s Trauma Center. Dr. Fisher, a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute faculty member, an EMDR International Association consultant, a past president of the New England Society for the Treatment of Trauma and Dissociation, and a former Harvard Medical School instructor, lectures nationally and internationally on the integration of neurobiological research and new trauma treatment paradigms into traditional psychotherapies.
