Don Meichenbaum, Ph.D. is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, where he retired early 20 years ago. He is currently the Research Director of Miami’s Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention (Please see www.melissainstitute.org). He is a co-founder of Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
He was named “one of the 10 most important psychotherapists of the twentieth century” in a poll of clinicians published in the American Psychologist. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Psychological Association’s Clinical Division and served as Honorary President of the Canadian Psychological Association.
He has given presentations in all 50 states as well as overseas. He has authored many books, the most recent of which being Roadmap to Resilience: A Guide for Military Trauma Victims and Their Families (visit www.roadmaptoresilience. org). Treatment of Individuals with Anger Control Problems and Aggressive Behavior; Stress Inoculation Training; Facilitating Treatment Adherence; and The Unconscious Reconsidered are among his other writings.
He has advised veterans’ hospitals, the National Guard, mental treatment facilities for children, adolescents, and adults, treatment centers for individuals with traumatic brain injuries, torture victims, Native Americans, deaf people, and school boards, among others.
